How to Use Crystalline Watercolours by Jackman’s Art Materials

How to Use

Crystalline Watercolours —
colour in its purest form.

Pure Pigment Burst

Activation occurs instantly upon contact with water for unmatched intensity.

Dynamic Movement

Crystals create organic textures and blooms that traditional paints cannot replicate.

High Transparency

Maintain luminous layers even with highly concentrated pigments.

Professional Grade

Handcrafted in the UK with the same meticulous care as our traditional lines.

Jackman's Crystalline Watercolours are pure pigment crystals designed for artists seeking maximum movement and vibrancy. Unlike traditional paints, these crystals allow you to control the "burst" of colour directly on the paper.

3 Easy Techniques

Sprinkle on Wet Paper

Apply a clean wash of water to your paper first, then lightly sprinkle the crystals. Watch as they explode into vibrant, flowing patterns.

Mist on Dry Paper

Place crystals on dry paper in a specific pattern, then use a fine mist spray bottle to activate them. This creates controlled "blooms" and soft edges.

Traditional Mixing

Treat the crystals like raw pigment. Dissolve a small amount in a palette with water to create a liquid watercolour that can be applied with a brush.

Pro Tip — We recommend using distilled water and high-quality cold-pressed paper. This ensures the pigments move freely without interference from mineral content in tap water.

Essential Tools

  • Jackman's Crystalline Jars — highly concentrated pure pigment.
  • Spray Bottle — a fine mist is essential for "bloom" effects.
  • Cold Pressed Paper — provides the texture needed to "catch" the crystals.
  • Mixing Palette — for traditional wash preparation.

Safety & Compliance
