Description:
Lunar Blue (P.Bk 11 / P.B 15:3) is a captivating watercolour pigment that combines deep, inky black with a cool, intense phthalo blue to create a stunning, granulating colour with a dramatic, cosmic feel. This unique blend features a dark, stormy blue-black tone that separates and granulates beautifully on the paper, resulting in mesmerizing textures reminiscent of night skies, oceans, and rocky landscapes.
The pigment's heavy granulation is its most striking feature, as the black particles (P.Bk 11) settle into the textured surface of the paper, while the phthalo blue (P.B 15:3) creates a smooth, vivid wash over the top. This granulation creates dynamic effects that evoke a sense of depth and movement, perfect for atmospheric skies, stormy seascapes, or abstract textures. In full strength, Lunar Blue provides a bold, dark blue-black with intense granulation, while in lighter washes, the blue separates out, leaving ethereal, smoky patterns.
Lunar Blue has excellent lightfastness, ensuring that its unique tonal shifts and granulated effects will remain stable over time. It mixes beautifully with other colours, adding dramatic contrast and texture to landscapes, night scenes, or abstract works. This pigment is perfect for artists who want to experiment with textural effects and rich, atmospheric colours, making Lunar Blue a striking and essential addition to any watercolour palette.
