How Ultramarine Pink Pigment is Made
The treatment of medium particle size red shade Ultramarine with ammonium chloride converts it to Ultramarine violet. Prolonging the reaction causes the pigment to become redder but weaker. Ultramarine violet is about half the strength of a medium particle size Ultramarine blue.
Treatment of Ultramarine violet with HCl gas converts it to Ultramarine pink. This is about half the strength of the violet.

Description
Ultramarine Pink is a soft, muted watercolour pigment with a gentle, violet-pink hue that carries a subtle warmth. This unique colour is a lighter, more delicate version of traditional ultramarine pigments, offering a refined and atmospheric quality perfect for florals, portraits, sunsets, and soft landscapes. Its cool, dusty rose tone provides an elegant balance between pink and purple, giving a serene and harmonious feel to paintings.
With its transparent nature, Ultramarine Pink is ideal for creating smooth washes and layering effects, allowing artists to build depth and dimension without overwhelming the painting. When applied at full strength, it produces a soft, warm pink with violet undertones, while diluted applications result in airy, pastel shades perfect for highlighting or gentle shading. The pigment’s granulating texture adds an extra layer of interest, creating subtle texture and depth in washes.
Ultramarine Pink has good lightfastness, ensuring that its delicate, dusty hue remains stable over time. It mixes beautifully with other colours, forming soft purples when combined with blues or earthy, muted tones when mixed with browns. This pigment is ideal for artists looking to add a soft, vintage feel to their palette, whether for creating glowing skies, gentle floral details, or ethereal atmospheric effects.
