Description
Cobalt (Aureolin) Yellow is a luminous, transparent yellow watercolour pigment with a cool, slightly greenish undertone. Its radiant, airy quality makes it perfect for painting sunlight, spring foliage, luminous reflections, and bright highlights. Known for its clarity and brilliance, this pigment brings light and vibrancy to watercolour compositions without overwhelming surrounding colours.
This semi-transparent yellow performs beautifully in glazing techniques, allowing you to build layers of glowing washes while maintaining a clean, fresh feel. It mixes exceptionally well with blues to produce vivid greens, or with reds and oranges for natural, sunlit tones — ideal for landscapes, botanical works, and atmospheric effects like sunrises or glowing clouds.
Though it is rated with AA lightfastness (very good), Cobalt (Aureolin) Yellow may show slight fading over time in certain conditions. Nevertheless, its beautiful clarity, versatility, and subtle coolness make it a much-loved pigment for artists seeking a transparent yellow that enhances the vibrancy and realism of their work.
We Recommend
