Description

Davy's Grey (P.Bk 7 / P.W 6 / P.G 17) is a soft, muted grey watercolour with a subtle greenish undertone, offering an earthy alternative to traditional greys or blacks. Composed of Carbon Black (P.Bk 7), Titanium White (P.W 6), and Chromium Oxide Green (P.G 17), Davy’s Grey is the ideal pigment for capturing atmospheric effects, soft shadows, and natural tones in both landscapes and urban scenes.

This opaque pigment produces smooth, even washes, ranging from a pale grey when diluted to a medium, soft grey when applied full strength. The unique greenish tint gives it a gentle, organic character, making it perfect for painting misty skies, foliage, and subtle shadows. Davy’s Grey works beautifully to tone down brighter colours, creating harmonious, muted palettes, and adding depth without the harshness of darker greys or blacks.

With excellent lightfastness, Davy’s Grey maintains its soft, neutral quality over time, ensuring that your artwork retains its subtlety. It mixes well with other pigments, especially greens, blues, and browns, to create a balanced, earthy range of tones. Whether you're creating landscapes, still lifes, or atmospheric effects, Davy's Grey is the perfect choice for adding refined, natural shading and atmosphere to your watercolour paintings.

Flat, opaque and very subtle.

This is a beautiful version of Davy's Grey. A very subtle green shade but with so much depth and opacity. Lovely, creamy pigment that dries perfectly flat.

Interesting grey

This grey is subtle and delicate, yet has a depth to it in greater concentration which is very pleasing. It has a greenish tinge and an opacity which is beautiful for petal shadows yet works well in larger areas too.
