Description

Phthalo Green (P.G. 7) is a brilliant, high-intensity green watercolour pigment with a cool blue undertone. Known for its vibrancy and strength, this modern synthetic pigment creates dynamic, lush greens that are perfect for capturing tropical foliage, forested landscapes, or bold botanical compositions. It’s often compared to Viridian Green and Winsor Green (Blue Shade), but offers greater transparency and tinting strength.

This pigment delivers clean, smooth washes with outstanding luminosity. At full strength, it produces a saturated, jewel-toned green, while when diluted, it reveals lighter, transparent tones ideal for layering and glazing. Its exceptionally high staining power makes it excellent for permanent marks and vibrant passages that won’t lift once dry.

Phthalo Green has excellent lightfastness, so your artwork will retain its rich, fresh colour over time. Whether you're painting landscapes, botanical studies, or abstract works, this pigment’s clean mixing properties and strong colour payoff make it an essential addition to any artist’s palette.

We Recommend

Use distilled water with all our watercolours to preserve each pigment’s purest characteristics and ensure maximum vibrancy and clarity.

Phthalo Green

A really fresh, transparent shade which flows well. I find that Its a great base for making both bright jewel shades and muted shades too, for example, a touch of Cobalt yellow added to it makes a fresh spring green and Permanent rose added to Phthalo green creates wonderful muted shades of mauve and blue depending on the proportions of colour.
