Description

Prussian Blue (P.B. 27) is a rich, deep blue pigment with a subtle green undertone, prized for its dramatic intensity and versatility. This historic watercolour paint offers a moody, inky hue perfect for capturing stormy skies, deep shadows, turbulent seas, and striking contrasts in any composition. Its cool, intense blue character lends itself beautifully to both traditional landscapes and contemporary artwork.

This pigment is semi-transparent with medium staining strength, making it ideal for layered washes and strong tonal values. At full concentration, it delivers a dark, velvety blue, while when diluted, it softens into elegant, misty blues—ideal for atmospheric backgrounds or subtle water effects. Its smooth flow and responsiveness make it a joy to work with, especially when glazing or layering.

Prussian Blue blends exceptionally well with other pigments—producing vibrant forest greens when mixed with yellows and rich purples when combined with reds. With its AAA lightfastness rating, it maintains colour integrity over time, ensuring your artwork remains bold and luminous for years to come. Whether you're painting landscapes, abstracts, or expressive portraits, Prussian Blue is a powerful and essential pigment in any professional watercolour palette.

the Prussian Blue is as a beautiful depth of colour, that is very useful with a wide range of dilution, as with all of Jackman colours it is brilliant

The Other Versatile Blue

The ‘cool’ twin of Ultramarine blue; great for darkening other colours, creating shadows, adding depth to backgrounds. Has a transparency when you don’t want a flat, matt effect - makes a very good, rich black. It mixes well with other paints. This has become my preferred cool blue. The quality of this Jackmans paint, like all their other paints is outstanding - smooth, easy to mix and highly pigmented - very little indeed goes a very long way.

Prussian blue?

Prussian blue is a lovely rich dark blue and is a very useful mixing colour as well as a stand alone colour as with all jackmans colours excellent quality and rich in pigment strength

Lovely deep pigment, a shade that’s great for dark skies and wild waves
