Description

Anthraquinone Red, also known as Anthraquinoid Red, Burgundy Wine Red, and Transparent Red, is a rich, cool-toned watercolour pigment with a deep, jewel-like crimson hue. This pigment is prized for its excellent transparency and smooth flow, making it perfect for glazing and layering techniques. Its cool undertones, with a slightly bluish tint, allow it to capture the rich reds of roses, dramatic skies, and intense shadows in portraits or still-life paintings.

With strong tinting strength, Anthraquinone Red blends beautifully with other colours. Mixing with yellows creates vibrant oranges, while combining with blues produces deep purples and muted maroons. Its transparency allows for luminous washes, subtle gradations, and delicate glazes without losing its colour intensity. Highly regarded for its lightfastness, Anthraquinone Red retains its brilliance over time, ensuring long-lasting vibrancy in your artwork.

Whether used for bold, saturated red areas or delicate, nuanced tones, Anthraquinone Red brings a refined elegance to any watercolour palette.

Anthraquinoid Red

Love Jackman’s watercolour paints, no matter the colour. They have rekindled my enthusiasm for water painting. I am in the process of replacing my Daniel Smith and Isaro watercolours solely with Jackman’s watercolour paints.

Anthraquinoid Red

A really nice violet red colour with a slight granulation. Makes a beautiful cool red wash perfect for skies.
